Inuit Ancestry Project,
Nunatsiavut

Know History is working to support the legacy of Nunatsiavut knowledge keepers, helping to preserve family histories and heritage for generations to come.

Know History is working to document and preserve the invaluable knowledge held by the Regional Membership Committees in Nunatsiavut, crucial for assessing the ancestry of applicants to the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement (LILCA).

In collaboration with Nunatsiavut, Know History is digitizing and databasing existing genealogical and historical materials. Information is then transformed into preliminary family lines for discussion and review with authorized knowledge keepers on the Membership Committees. Once approved, information on families and details about Inuit and Kablunângajuk ancestry will be held in a user-friendly database. Know History provides digital copies and complete transcripts for each interview conducted. We are honoured to support a lasting resource for generations to come in Nunatsiavut.
