Shortlisted for the Governor General’s History Award for Excellence in Community Programming: The Kahnawà:ke Oral History Project
Each year Know History undertakes various pro-bono projects to support the amazing work happening in communities across Canada. From 2021-2022, we were honoured to support the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake (MCK) and the Kanien’kehá:ka Onkwawén:na Raotitióhkwa Language & Cultural Center (KOR) as they embarked on a project that captured and shared the cultural heritage of Kahnawà:ke with community members through oral histories.
A total of twenty-three interviews were conducted, culminating in Resistance and Resilience: Stories and Remembrances of our Elders, an almost hour-long video featuring highlights from interviews with every member of the community who participated.
We were thrilled to be short-listed for the Governor General’s History Award for Excellence in Community Programming for this incredible community-led project and we’d like to extend our sincerest thanks Gerald Taiaiake Alfred and Trina Diabo for their leadership and commitment throughout the process.

Gerald Taiaiake Alfred, Skylee-Storm Hogan, Trina Diabo, and Annette Jacobs.
