Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke

We are proud to collaborate with the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke, the Kanien’kehá:ka Onkwawén:na Raotitióhkwa Language and Cultural Center, and Dr. Gerald Taiaiake Alfred on the vital work of collecting and preserving oral histories that reflect the lived experiences, cultural teachings, and perspectives of community members from Kahnawà:ke.

This project builds on work completed in 2022–2023, including the creation of the film Resistance and Resilience: Stories and Remembrance of our Elders, which was shortlisted for the 2023 Governor General’s History Award for Excellence in Community Programming. With a $50,000 funding contribution from the Anglican Church Reconciliation Land Tithe, the project is now expanding to include additional oral history preservation initiatives, with the goal of ensuring future generations of Kahnawa’kehró:non have access to easily forgotten information about the community.

In October 2025, we traveled to Epekwitk (PEI) to speak with community members directly concerning connections built out for L’nuey’s Ni’n Aq No’kmaq Genealogy Project.
