The Survivor’s Circle for Reproductive Justice

In October 2025, we were honored to attend the launch of the SCRJ’s report titled “Assisted Reproductive Services to Restore Fertility for Forcibly-Sterilized Indigenous Survivors: Options and Costs”. The report shares truth, recognition, and a path toward healing for survivors of forced, coerced, and imposed sterilization, which unfortunately still takes place to this day across the nation. Katy Bear, a Survivor and the first to successfully reverse her forced procedure, spoke about her journey of pain, life-saving surgery, and the difficult research that took place for the report, all while holding her beautiful newborn daughter.

Following the launch, we stayed to take part in strategy discussions concerning the passing of Bill S-228, which would criminalize the forced and coerced sterilization of people within Canada. Senator Boyer, who successfully carried the bill through the Senate, was present to discuss next steps now that the bill has made it to the House of Commons.

It was an incredibly powerful and moving day. For further details on the SCRJ and/or Katy Bear, see this article: LINK
