About the Episode
The Canadian War Museum in Ottawa is Canada’s national military and war museum. If you have ever visited the CWM, you know that it is a unique one, covering not just military history but also the many facets of Canada’s wars. In this very special episode, host Robin Mullins had the chance to sit down and talk with historian, author, professor, and all-around nice guy: Dr. Andrew Burtch.
Dr. Burtch is the Canadian War Museum’s post-1945 historian; an adjunct research professor at Carleton University; and his book Give Me Shelter: The Failure of Canada’s Cold War Civil Defence received the C.P. Stacey Award in 2012.
In this episode, Dr. Burtch discusses his day-to-day work at the Canadian War Museum and offers insight on how exhibitions are created. He also shares how the CWM’s mandate seeks to help veterans; how the modern experience is changing the CWM; and how museums ultimately tell their stories.
