About the Project
Let sound transport you to the shores of Beausoleil Island in the heart of Georgian Bay.
Rooted: Beausoleil Island is an auditory experience that explores the history of Beausoleil Island using soundscapes, storytelling, interviews, and historic texts.
Experience history by listening to shared knowledge, the environment, and voices of the past.
Each chapter will explore a different location on Beausoleil Island, from the early settlements at Beausoleil Point, to the sandy shores of Camp Kitchikewana, and the magnificent granite landscape of the north. You will hear from archeologists, Indigenous knowledge holders, Parks Canada staff, and historic figures on a range of topics, including ecology, stone tools, and summer camp.
You can delve into each chapter at your own pace, in your own time, and your own way.

About Beausoleil Island
Beausoleil Island is situated on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabe, Huron-Wendat, and Métis. The island can be found just off the shores of Midland and Penetanguishene in Georgian Bay, Ontario.
The island is home to diverse ecosystems, straddling the boundary between the mixed forests of the Saint Lawrence Lowlands and the iconic exposed granite of the Canadian Shield. As part of Georgian Bay Islands National Park, Beausoleil Island’s wildlife is being preserved for generations of visitors to enjoy camping, hiking, and playing.
